The Cannabis Licensing Authority (CLA) was established under the amendments to the Dangerous Drugs Act. Under the first Schedule of the Act, each Ministry of Government with direct links to the ganja industry is represented on the Board. These include:
- Foreign Affairs
- Industry and Commerce
- National Security
- Science and Technology
In addition, there is representation from academia and the Attorney General’s Chambers as well as civil society, non-governmental community-based organisations and faith-based organisations.
The Chairman of the National Council on Drug Abuse also sits as an ex-officio member of the Board.
